Strategy exercise (WP 7)

Description of work

The 7th Work Package of the SIMPATIE project called ‘The Strategy Exercise’ started in June 2006 and will last until December 2006. The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) is lead partner in this package, in which all project partners are involved.

The objective of the strategy exercise is to reach expert consensus on a strategy framework for patient safety that incorporates the information from all previous work packages. The aim is to develop a strategy framework that can be modified to fit individual health care systems and organizations but that contains agreed components.

Results to be achieved from Work Package 7:

Development of a Strategy Framework that will incorporate tasks of previous SIMPATIE Work packages i.e.:

  • Overview of actions to improve patient safety in Europe.

  • Recommendation on patient safety for governments.

  • Toolbox for improving patent safety in health care organizations.

  • The Deliverables of the Strategy Exercise Work Package are:

  • The organization of a Consensus conference on a strategy framework for Patient Safety

  • A publication on the Strategy Framework

  • Making the strategy framework available via a web based resource

  • Prepare a plan for dissemination of the strategy framework to interested stakeholders and the public

  • In order to build up a consensus on the Patient Safety Strategy, the project team will use a network of experts on Patient Safety throughout Europe that will provide advice and will elaborate the Strategy on Patient Safety. The Publication and the web resources on the Strategy Framework can be of help to all interested parties in Europe and they can function as a tool to continue the debate on the best strategies to ensure patient safety.
