Internal improvement tools (WP 6)
Description of work
The Dutch Institute for Healthcare Improvement CBO is the lead partner of this work package.'
In this work package an analysis of instruments and approaches that are being used across Europe and elsewhere to improve patient safety in health care organizations will be performed. This will include work with leadership, governance and the culture of the organization, as well as tools for screening care delivery processes for safety risks and instruments to redesign them so they are safe for both patients and staff.
In addition, indicators developed in work package 4 will also be considered.
Input will be provided by other partners, especially regarding:
quality methodology by the High Authority on Health (HAS)
professional aspects by the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME)
organizational aspects by the European Hospital and Healthcare Organisation (HOPE)
patient participation by the Long-term Medical Conditions Alliance for health (LMCA).
Identified instruments will then be structured and a recommendation developed on a patient safety framework for health care organizations interested in improving this aspect of care delivery.
Results to be achieved
- To define a set of instruments that can be used to increase patient safety in health care organizations.
- To develop recommendation on internal audit mechanisms on patient safety for health care organizations.
Objective
The objective of this sixth work package it the development of recommendations for internal evaluation and instruments for safety improvement that will be part of the final toolbox for improving patient safety.
