Vocabulary & Indicators (WP 4)

Organisation

The ESQH is the lead partner of this work package.
ESQH will establish an expert group with representatives of project partners and other experts as appropriate. The group will be supported by the ESQH London office and ESQH indicators group based in Limerick, Ireland. The group will be led by Prof. Jan Mainz, director of the Danish Indicator Project.

Description of the work

Based on literature review, targeted information gathering and expert consultation, taking into account previous work done by the project partners, the group will define:

• a vocabulary (set of definitions) related to patient safety, considering language, health care system organization and economy and cultural issues across Europe


• a set of indicators / outcome measures that can be used in efforts to improve patient safety both at the system and organization level.

Results to be achieved

• To develop a vocabulary on patient safety.


• To develop a set of indicators / outcome measures for patient safety, considering both the system and organization level.


• To prepare a brief rating assessment instrument for external application to provisional outputs.

Objective

The objective of this work package it the development of a vocabulary and indicator sets for safety that will be part of the final toolbox for improving patient safety.
