Safe Medication (Spain)
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices-Spain (Instituto para el Uso Seguro de los Medicamentos, in Spanish) is an independent nonprofit Spanish organization committed to the prevention of medication-system errors and adverse drug events. It was founded in the year 2000 as a partner of the American ISMP.
The Institute reports four main areas of activity:
- a. a national medication error reporting system;
- b. various medication safety projects;
- c. maintenance of a national database of Spanish look-alike and sound-alike drugs; and
- d. education projects on medication safety.
